The collective labour agreement
is the single most important
agreement for employees
The members of the union are represented by their labour union representative. A shop steward is a person elected by the Finnish Post and Logistics Union PAU members for the purpose of monitoring and looking after the interests of the workers at the workplace. Shop stewards are responsible for ensuring that the collective bargaining agreement and existing legislation are complied with.
Shop stewards negotiate the terms of employment at the local level and serve as go-betweens when disputes arise. The higher the unionization rate, the better equipped the shop steward is to look after your interests. If you have any questions, contact your local union representative.
The position held by the shop steward is regulated by general agreements between the labour market organizations (The Confederation of the Finnish of Industries EK and the Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions SAK). The collective bargaining agreements also include provisions concerning shop stewards.
Shop stewards are partly or fully released from normal work duties in order to attend to their tasks. The time that may be devoted to such tasks are specified in the collective bargaining agreement.
The contact details of your shop steward are posted on your workplace’s bulletin board or available from the local chapters officers.
